What is Virtual Media?
Virtual Media is a technology that allows data transfer to take place between a remote IP KVM user’s laptop/desktop PC and a device attached to an IP KVM switch. This technology is particularly useful when deploying patches and updates to remote or dispersed servers
How does it work?
- During a KVM connection, user requests a virtual media connection to a CD drive
- The Dominion KX II creates a “virtual connection” between the CD drive to a “virtual drive” on the target server
- The “virtual drive” is mounted on the target server through the server’s USB port
- The CD drive appears on the target server as a USB connected drive
- The user can use the “virtual drive” from the server’s OS
