PDU’s were until recently viewed as just something that came with the cabinet. Increased power demands of servers and newly available metering and control options on cabinet power distribution units have given IT managers something else to think about. Environmental responsibility is moving business towards logging power consumption of racks and devices and factoring it into the TCO of the device, the practice is also useful for capacity planning based on real metrics.
